Rita & family,

I share those memories; especially 4 years on the rifle team. At this
distance, I recall that Danny was a better shot than I was. Though he'd
never gloat over such things. Humble, competent and exemplary character are all
descriptors that described Dan from at least our teenage years, when I met
him. I have been blessed to count him a friend; in great and ordinary and
challenging times.

With sympathy & fond memories,
Bob Duncan

Rita,
I can't really add to the sentiments expressed by my classmates, except to
reinforce them. I knew Danny at the academy but I did not serve with him on
active duty. Nonetheless, you can see that the Class of '72 feels the loss
both individually and collectively. My sincere condolences to all the
members of his family.

Rita - Very sorry for your loss of your brother. I know how difficult that can be. I knew Danny at the academy but did not serve with him. As one of my classmates, it is always sad to see one cross the bar. Time will come when we will all take the same journey. God bless you and your family. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Dick,

Thanks for sharing that piece, it puts things in the proper perspective.  I didn't know Scalia's son was a priest.  As another classmate leaves us, our own mortality becomes a little clearer.  May we all live each day to the fullest.

As we mourn the loss of Danny, I came across this eulogy for Justice
Scalia by his son, a Catholic Priest.

It hits a cord in me that kind of put times like this into focus. It
starts like most but it's not:

"We are gathered here because of one man...."

So sorry to see we have lost another classmate. I remember Danny as a quiet, contemplative individual, but with a great sense of humor and a warming smile. I guess at this age we should all cherish the moments we have and make the most of the rest of our lives. Hold close to those you love and count on the Lord to see us through to the end. Bless you Danny and may you rest in peace.

I was shocked to get the e-mail ltr from the Academy Alumni Association today about Dan. Though we were never stationed together at an AIRSTA, he had a great reputation as an aviator. He will be missed; I will miss my Academy classmate. He was the genuine article.

Danny, Bruce Melnick, and I came from the same home town. Did AIM with Danny and spent the months before attending the academy running and learning how to swim (I didnít do so well). I liked him very much for his gentle spirit and seemingly unflappable nature. Very well grounded.

Sadness in my soul today, but still plenty of good memories.

For the rest of you: Take care of yourselves!

My thoughts exactly.

We were "wives" one make, were stationed together our first tour in Wilmington, NC, and lived in the same mobile home park for a few months in Pensacola.

Our first aviation tours were both on the West Coast, mine in San Diego, his in Port Angeles.
Nancy and got to be good friends with him and Peggy, but lost touch after our tours in Alaska.
I always regretted not staying in closer touch with them, and now it's too late.
A very sad day for us all.
